Such a wonderful week teaching students and giving a lecture at the Carl Maria von Weber Music-University in Dresden. I enjoyed the sense of student-community at this school, the level of discussion, as well as the interesting and diverse projects they are all involved in.
Especially impressed by the quality of the musicians who did such amazing performances of my music. Especially impressive were the two soloists- Lucija Mikuz, who performed my solo flute piece innermost tidings of the tube and Yeeun Jung, who played a piece that is a size that is recognised as not a size but a piece – both captured the poetic and sensitive sound-landscapes of these massive and intricate pieces. Congratulations! Also the student conductor Benjyamino Fiorini did a great job with Jenny’s last Rock and the technical team really helped make Randy’s voice heard through the cassette recorders. Especially the conductor and leader of the whole concert, Nicolas Kuhn– such a good organizer and clear conductor who understands, internalizes and can communicate music so well. I was so happy to play Still listening II with the students and Ernst Surberg on Turntables (always such a delight to play with Ernst). I was impressed at the level of all the students, for many of whom it was their first concert of new music, having this young violinist tackle the violin solos in Still listening II with such sovereignity and brilliance.
